Josef Frank designed the original Hortus pot in 1938. Later, during the war period, when metal was hard to come by, Estrid Ericson had the Gullaskruv glassworks make a version in glass. In Svenskt Tenn's spring exhibition in 1942, the Hortus pot was shown in several colours; ruby red, emerald green and deep blue.
